Butler
- Gender performativity - performance of gender person/character that creates stereotypes of gender
- Gender trouble - by creating binary norms of heteronormativity it creates an exclusion for those who do not fit into binary norms, repetition naturalises roles
- Butler aims to remove stereotypical ideas of gender and sexuality
Butler proposes the view that through the heteronormative representation of gender and sexuality a conceptualised gender trouble can be created within those who do not fit within binary norms. Gender is created through the repetition of expression which leads to stereotypes that may narrow a persons view of what is accepted and even upon role reversal may cause issue in those who fit outside the binary standard of modern society, with Butler aiming to remove the stereotypical essence of gender portrayal.
